Educate. Inspire. Empower.

We create safer learning environments and stronger communities across Africa—beginning with a Kampala school that has served 120 students for over five years — and a community-aid effort with three years of proven delivery.

Years of community drives

KCDI has collected used shoes and clothing in the United States and delivered them to communities in Uganda for three years running.

Two ways we show up

Education for the long term. Practical care for today.

Our two flagship programs meet different needs, but share one standard: listen locally, act with dignity, and follow through.

Our day school in the Kampala region has served children who struggle in typical classrooms but have never been formally diagnosed — operating underfunded for over five years. Small classes, language-rich instruction, and a growth mindset make room for every learner to be seen.

KCDI Community Drives

Through Kkaga Community Development Initiative, a Maryland-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donated shoes and clothes travel from U.S. communities to families in Uganda.

The vision

Safe places to learn. Communities equipped to thrive.

Global Connection Africa is the umbrella for focused, practical work. Jericho changes the learning environment around a child. KCDI Community Drives mobilize care across continents.

  • 01
We start close to the need. Programs are shaped around what children, families, and communities actually face.
  • 02
We make support tangible. A classroom seat, trained teacher, pair of shoes, or warm item of clothing becomes a concrete next step.
  • 03
We build trust through action. The three-year drive record shows that support entrusted to this community reaches Uganda.

Education, confidence, and community belong together.

Choose the work you want to move forward.

One organization. Two focused promises.

Our mission is simple: Educate. Inspire. Empower. Our vision is an Africa where children learn in safety and communities have the support to thrive.

A broad vision, made practical.

Global Connection Africa gives both flagship programs a shared home without asking either one to lose its focus. The organization can hold a long-term vision for thriving communities while directing today’s work toward two clear, accountable lanes.

The Jericho Foundation is our operating school in the Kampala region — 120 students, 8 teachers, 8 classrooms. KCDI Community Drives is our established community-aid program, run through Kkaga Community Development Initiative in Maryland.

Educate.Create learning environments where difference is understood.
Inspire.Restore confidence and invite communities to act together.
Empower.Turn generosity into durable opportunity and practical support.

The vision becomes real through local relationships and consistent action.

How the structure works

Clear programs. Shared accountability.

Every child can learn. Some learn differently.

The child is not the problem

A school built around how children actually learn.

Formal assessment for learning differences is difficult to access for many Ugandan families. Children can spend years falling behind without anyone asking why. Jericho offers small learning communities, language-rich instruction, hands-on teaching, and a culture that protects dignity.

  • 01
Small classesTeachers can notice confusion early, adjust pace, and give useful feedback while a child is still engaged.
  • 02
Language-rich instructionReading, vocabulary, oral language, and comprehension are taught directly and patiently.
  • 03
Multiple pathwaysStudents hear, see, say, build, move, and practise so one difficult pathway does not block the lesson.
  • 04
Growth mindsetMistakes become information. Progress, strategy, and effort matter more than fixed labels.

Why it works

We change the conditions, not the child’s worth.

What often happens

  • The lesson moves on before understanding is secure.
  • Reading difficulty affects every subject.
  • Repeated failure turns into silence or disruptive behaviour.
  • Families are told to make the child work harder.

What Jericho changes

  • Skills are broken into clear, teachable steps.
  • Teachers revisit learning through different methods.
  • Progress is noticed and used to build confidence.
  • Families receive practical language for supporting learning.

MOVEMENT

Learning through the whole body

Climbing, balancing, and coordinated play strengthen gross motor skills, confidence, and peer connection.

MAKING

Hands build understanding

Crafting and manipulating materials develop fine motor control while giving language and ideas a concrete form.

GROWTH

Learning by doing

Gardening, making, movement, and guided play build understanding while strengthening fine and gross motor skills.

Admissions

A different path—not lower expectations.

One sign alone does not define a learner. A pattern of frustration, slow progress, or lost confidence may mean the current environment is not meeting your child’s needs.

Reading or spelling remains unusually difficult
Multi-step directions are hard to hold in mind
Written work does not show what the child knows
Homework leads to tears, avoidance, or shutdown
The child learns better through doing and discussion
Confidence has fallen even though curiosity remains

A formal diagnosis is not required to begin a conversation. The school looks at the child in front of us: what is difficult, what is strong, and what support makes learning possible.

The story is told best by families and educators.

PARENT VOICE

TEACHER VOICE

“Teaching is more than delivering lessons; it is about helping children recognize their potential.”

“Teaching is more than delivering lessons; it is about helping children recognize their potential and believe in what they can achieve. At Jericho, the opportunity to support students in their learning and personal growth is deeply meaningful. Every child deserves encouragement, patience, and access to an education that helps them develop their abilities. I am proud to be part of a mission that places children’s learning and future opportunities at the heart of its work.”

— Daniel Opio, Teacher

“What if the child who has stopped raising a hand simply needs a different path into the lesson?”
The Jericho Foundation’s guiding question

Keep 120 students learning.

Collected with care. Delivered with purpose.

For three years running, Kkaga Community Development Initiative has collected used shoes and clothing in the United States and delivered them to communities in Uganda.

A real track record

Community generosity that completes the journey.

Donating an item is only the beginning. KCDI organizes collection in the United States, prepares goods for transport, and connects deliveries with communities in Uganda. Three consecutive years of drives demonstrate a simple strength: this initiative follows through.

KCDI is registered in Maryland and holds federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. That structure gives U.S. donors a clear, established nonprofit channel for supporting the drives and the school program.

How the drive moves

From one community to another.

01 · COLLECT

Neighbors give

Supporters in the United States contribute clean, useful shoes and clothing through organized collection points.

02 · PREPARE

Volunteers sort

Items are gathered, sorted, and packed into barrels so each delivery is useful, respectful, and manageable.

03 · DELIVER

Communities receive

The drive reaches Uganda through relationships that connect giving with people and places on the ground.

Sustained commitment

Our Partners
